Tracie Sanchez has been named new principal, Kevin Hill will be serving as interim principal7/25/2021 Read Ms Sanchez's letter to DRES:
July 21, 2021 Dear Durant Road Elementary School Community, With great excitement and enthusiasm, I have been named the new principal of Durant Road Elementary! Over 14 years ago, I started my administrative career at this same school and have a very special place in my heart for the students, staff, parents, and community of Durant Road Elementary. As a leader, I value relationship building, equity work, teaching to the standards, and building trust through hard work and dedication to our students and school community. I look forward to the wonderful work we will do together within the Durant Road Elementary School Community. My teaching background is in Special Education, specifically adapted curriculum, which is a passion of mine. I taught for 8 years before becoming an administrator. I worked as an Assistant Principal for 5 years between Durant Road Elementary, Leesville Road Elementary, and Harris Creek Elementary. In January 2013, I became the Principal of Harris Creek Elementary, where I will continue to lead until I begin at Durant. About me personally, I am married to my husband, Ray, and have two sons, Emanuel age 17, and William age 6. We enjoy traveling, exercising, watching movies, and spending quality time with family. I look forward to becoming part of the Durant Road Elementary Family and working closely with you and your children. Sincerely, Tracie Sanchez

So, we did a little something this past weekend.... This year has been hard, y'all. For every single one of us. But in a world where teachers can't hug their kids in the morning, and need to stay "socially distant" even in the classroom setting, I think it's been especially trying on the teachers and staff at our school(s). So the DRES PTA tried to think outside the box for our Teacher Appreciation gift this year. We wanted to give the ultimate gift of relaxation - a gift that will keep giving year after year. With a month to plan, a weekend to complete all the work, a few accomplices from the "inside" - not to mention some serious elbow grease - we were able to pull off an amazing surprise for DRES staff this week - a staff lounge makeover! It was soooo hard keeping this under wraps from all our amazing staff at the school, but so worth it. Check out a few before and afters! and more details...... Sitting AreaThe star of the show is the new sectional couch and ottoman. New chair, comfy pillows, picture art and plants! Eating AreaNew table, chairs, extra seating, photo clip wall frames Coffee and Tea StationCoffee cart, electric tea kettle, Keurig Cafe to make lattes and cappuccinos. New and Improved Staff Bulletin BoardGone is the gigantic eyesore that took up way too much space! View from Entry HallLook at how much space we created! It was so fun for us to create a calm and relaxing space for those we know need it the most! It was amazing to find a tangible way to love on and show appreciation for staff. It was a big project for a weekend, but "Many hands make light work!"
Thank you to everyone who participated, pitched in, helped us sneak in the building, and to our secret keepers! And most importantly, thank you to all our teachers and staff at DRES for being amazing!

Hello DRES Families!
Below is a video and a google slides presentation providing an overview of our 2020-2021 year at DRES. Please click through the presentation at your own pace! We are excited to kick off this year. Remember that the PTA is here for you! WCPSS School Board held a special meeting today to approve a period of remote learning to transition into Plan B. Outcomes of this meeting were:
All DRES students will have a start date of 8/17 All DRES students will be remote learning until the district indicates WCPSS is ready to move into Plan B. The Virtual Academy enrollment period will be opening again from 7/27-7/29. If you still wish to apply or change your enrollment status, you may do so at that time. Per WCPSS: "During this transitional period the district will focus on its readiness for welcoming students back on campus while also monitoring guidance from local and state health officials. As we prepare for students to return to campus, we will prioritize returning Pre-K and Regional Programs students on September 8 to daily classroom instruction, without weekly rotations. More information on these programs will follow." Read the WCPSS communication in it's entirety here. Still need help understanding Virtual Academy vs. Plan A/B/C?
