Do you wonder where/how the PTA spends the money it raises?
Last year the PTA supported a Donors Choose that our own Mrs. Meyers put together..
Is It Fiction or Nonfiction, That is the Question? Bookflix!
Please click on the link for details on her Donors Choose grant.
Mrs. Meyer shared this wonderful thank you to the PTA.....
Dear DRES PTA,
Thank you so much for believing in the importance of Bookflix and fiction vs nonfiction. Your support has allowed all of the students at my school to use the site as a part of their literacy day. It has been shown that students should read 50% fiction and 50% nonfiction throughout their school day. Bookflix allows for this to happen in a very authentic way.
It is amazing to hear story after story from teachers at my school, so glad that Bookflix is a part of their day. The engaging way that Bookflix links fact and fiction, reinforcing early reading skills, while introducing children to a world of knowledge and exploration is gratifying. For older students, who need just a little more literacy support, Bookflix is a perfect site to go to. It empowers the students to learn at their own pace. In addition, within the site, there are also numerous opportunities for kids and teachers to learn more from videos to lesson plans to student activities.
Thank you for this opportunity to help create a school of readers!
No, thank you Mrs. Meyer for allowing the PTA to share in the learning of our wonderful students!

Join the DRES PTA for a campus clean-up! Saturday October 7th from 8:20am-11:30am.
Durant Road Elementary School features a beautiful natural campus.
Please join us on Saturday, October 7 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. as we work together to maintain this wonderful learning environment.
Families and students are invited to come trim, plant, and mulch all around the campus. While we will have some tools available, we encourage families to bring weed whackers, hedge trimmers, rakes, wheelbarrows, gloves, and other gardening equipment. And, a pick-up truck or two would be great to haul items to the landfill.
Lunch will be provided for all participants.
Thank you for your support of DRES!
